How to come to ISTASE

The Higher Institute for Advanced Technologies of Saint-Etienne (ISTASE) currently lies on the campus at La Metare, in a 2000 m² building in which most of the students' classes and activities take place. The building lies next to the laboratories (TSI and DIOM) and CRITeR(Computing Centre). It is also very close to the Faculty of Sciences and the University Library for Sciences

SAINT-ETIENNE

Saint-Etienne is the main town in the Loire department. It has a population of 200,000 inhabitants. 400,000 with its suburbs. It is the 2nd largest town in the Rhône-Alpes region and the 11th in France. Its altitude is 520 metres and it enjoys a sunny continental climate.

The town developed thanks to its industries but now has numerous parks and public squares, as well as several museums. It is famous for its interest in sports and has also been developing its university and its cultural activities on a large scale. There are 20,000 students at the University of St-Etienne.

Saint-Etienne is well-surrounded : at the south : the natural park of Pilat ; west : the lake of Grangent ; on the east : Loire river ; and at the north : the plain of Forez and its many monuments.

One can reach St-Etienne easily, either with the motor-way from Clermont-Ferrand or Lyon and the north-south axis, or with a direct TGV from Paris.

The town is also close to the ski resorts in the Alps (2 hours away) and to the Mediterranean coast (3 hours).
