On a new mathematical model for open channel and river hydraulics
The modelling of hydrology of catchment basins and rivers holds a central place in environmental sciences, particularly in connection with water availability, urban sewer systems, flood risks and in particular for tsunamis. Indeed, rivers are known to be the tsunami highways. Waves penetrate through rivers much faster inland than the coastal inundation reaches over the ground, and may lead flooding in low-lying areas located several km away from the coastline. Modelling these processes and predicting the motion of water is a difficult task for which substantial effort has been devoted. To this purpose, in this talk, we present the first section-averaged non-linear and weakly dispersive model for open channel and river flows. These equations are the second order shallow water approximation of the section-averaged (three-dimensional) incompressible and irrotational Euler system. This new asymptotic model generalises the well-known one-dimensional Serre-Green- Naghdi (SGN) equations for rectangular section on uneven bottom to arbitrary channel/river section.

Soliton resolution for energy-critical equivariant wave maps
We consider wave maps R^(1+2) -> S^2, under the assumption of equivariant symmetry. We prove that every solution of finite energy resolves, as time passes, into a superposition of harmonic maps (solitons) and radiation. It was proved in works of Côte, and Jia and Kenig, that such a decomposition holds along a sequence of times. We show that the resolution holds continuously in time via a “no-return lemma” based on the virial identity. The proof combines a modulation analysis of solutions near a multi-soliton configuration with the concentration-compactness method. Joint work with Andrew Lawrie from MIT.

Irregular boundary inverse problem for a strongly coupled parabolic system in the framework of medical imaging of cancerous tumors
We first present the adaption of the functional analysis to solve the PDEs on domains with rough/irregular boundaries. Secondly, we present the strongly coupled parabolic system in the framework of medical imaging of cancerous tumors. The vascularization in the framework of medical imaging of cancerous tumors makes them objects with a "thick" boundary, of a higher dimension than the regular boundaries. Thus domains with a boundary with a bounded dimension could be viewed as their natural models. In this framework, we prove the well-posedness of the direct problem. We finish by presenting the results on the associated inverse problem.
