Mathieu Sanch-Maritan, CREAM Université Rouen-Normandie, présentera un séminaire intitulé : Trade, wage adjustment and job. Evidence from worker-firm matched data (joint with Carl Gaigné, UMR SMART).

Résumé / abstract  : Recent empirical literature finds very large and permanent effects of exposure to international trade on earnings and employment status. While previous studies describe the individual worker trajectories, we know little about the reallocation process towards new job. Over the period 2002-2012, we exploit a unique matched data set of French unemployment and employment registers that covers unemployment and employment episodes over 10 years. Our results show that the impact of international competition on worker trajectories depends on the level of qualification. While highly skilled workers suffer moderate wage losses and are reallocated toward more productive firms, blue-collar workers face high wage losses and are not reallocated toward highly productive firms.
