Pierre DESPORTES, an expert in religious history and the author of a thesis on Reims and its inhabitants during the 13th and 14th centuries (1979), who passed away in 2013, was a maître assistant (similar to an MCF (lecturer), but who answers to Departments others than the French Department for Education) at the Sorbonne before becoming a professor at the University of Picardie. He worked there from 1970 to 1994 and got actively involved in the history of this region and in the local academic societies. Once retired, he became, alongside Hélène MILLET, one of the architects responsible for the creation of the research group Fasti Ecclesiae Gallicanae, which offered to study the canons and cathedral chapters of France between the 13th and 15th centuries. M. DESPORTES presided over the group and published the first volume of the collection in 1996, on the diocese of Amiens. The second volume focused on Reims, and M. DESPORTES completed the third, about Sées, which was abandoned after the passing of Françoise LODDÉ. His contribution to this long-term collective enterprise is priceless. We owe his wife, Mme Françoise DESPORTES, who is also a medievalist, the bequest of a part of his book collection to the CERCOR, in 2015.
